Who Am I?
If you are an average GameMaker user, it is likely that I am old enough to be your father. I am not a games programmer, and not an expert in GameMaker. I don't consider myself an expert in games in anyway whatsoever.
However, I have a Master of Science degree in Software Engineering, and I have been working with programming and computers since many of you were still wearing diapers. This does not make me a games programmer, but I hope I posses some general computer science knowledge, and quite some experience in programming. And even if Games Programming certainly has elements that are relatively specific, in the end it is mostly about general programming.
I have used more programming languages than I can remember, including functional ones, object oreineted ones, procedural ones and declarative ones. I donät consider GML being the most beautiful one, nor the most useful or flexible one. However, it is one of the most productive ones (if nothte most productive) if your aim is to create a reasonably simple computer game
Occasionally, I find the time (and/or energy) to use GM, and invent some little hack. Normally, I never finish (or start, for that matter) any big projects in GM; since I know from the beginning that I will not have time to finish it.
My only reason for being on the forums is that I want to help people, because I think that once you learned programming, it is a joy. However, I rather help someone helping himself, and understand what he is doing, than writing code for someone.
